Rubicon celebrates IWED 2022
Careers
Rubicon Associates honours the amazing work that women engineers around the world are doing to support lives and livelihoods every day. Today, we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day (IWED) as part of an international awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the amazing career opportunities available to girls in our exciting industry.
And, what an amazing industry we work in – where the Australian Navy’s two most senior engineering roles are occupied by women, Director General Engineering – Navy Rachel Durbin, CSC and Head Navy Engineering Real Admiral Katherine Richards!
Today, our staff enjoyed a great presentation from Alicia Perry, Industry Coordinator at the Australian Maritime College who spoke about the need for the industry to have role models for emerging female engineers – and those role models are all of us, not just senior females.
The word on our street is that female engineers can bring a lot of positive attributes and energy to the team environment through diversity of thought and approach which leads to identifying a larger set of problems and solutions.
In general, we all need to encourage young females to develop their spatial skills, laying the foundation for further scientific exploration as they grow. We also need to find ways to help females feel less alone as they help us build a more inclusive engineering community.
One of the simplest and most effective things we can do differently is something as simple as richer storytelling. Events where we can celebrate, share success, and promote excellence amongst each other, and the wider industry are activities that make Rubicon Associates a great place to work. Which, in turn, creates a great team to share in our success.
We welcome all female engineers to have a chat with us around your career in the naval and maritime industry. The sky really is the limit!
