A Career in Naval Engineering?
Careers
Welcome to the exciting and rapid growth world of Naval Engineering (or Naval Architecture or Maritime Engineering).
We may be biased here at Rubicon Associates, but we believe this must be one of the best future industries to work in!
We know there will be a shortage of marine engineering talent to service future demand. Australia faces a challenge in building and maintaining its’ naval shipbuilding workforce capability to meet an ambitious program under the National Naval Shipbuilding Enterprise and 2020 Force Structure Plan.
The Naval Defence industry is growing, and we are looking to expand our capability to meet our ongoing project commitments and pipeline, supporting Australia’s sovereign capability.
Here is your chance to contribute to our national naval shipbuilding program, and the outfitting and repair of Australia’s fleet of patrol boats through to warships – aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, and submarines – as well as hydrographic survey vessels and supply ships.
Naval engineering is a sought-after and well-paid profession, that involves a broad range of disciplines, including:
Many of our naval projects require the multi-disciplinary coordination of marine/mechanical, electrical, structural and systems engineering capability to deliver end-to end platform design in accordance with naval standards.
You may be involved in researching, designing, advising and constructing marine structures or undertaking an assessment and inspection of structural integrity, a safety and risk analysis, supervising build management, or carrying out a life extension assessment and/or redesign. You might be contributing to the systems design and integration of naval ship systems – electrical, mechanical, combat, weapons, and safety systems. Or providing strategic procurement and contracts advice supporting Naval programs.
The sheer scope of Naval programs offers a diverse range of projects to be involved with!
It helps to have a love of the sea and all things marine, and a curiosity for the mechanics of vessel structures, a technical brain with mathematical and science abilities, along with good communication skills.
