Outboard Trial Plan
Navy Vessel Class: The Royal Australian Navy's (RAN's) Guardian-Class Pacific Patrol Boats are designed to replace the existing Pacific Patrol Boat fleet, and will be donated to 13 Pacific Island nations to help improve maritime security.
Services
Rubicon Associates were engaged to prepare trial documentation to enable Austal and the Commonwealth to assess the performance of new Yamaha F70 outboard motors (replacing the previous Yamaha 90A motors) and the impact on the sea boat’s envelope for launching from and returning to the GCPB.
Scope
The work package included Installation Work Instructions for the installation of the Yamaha F70 motors in accordance with OEM recommendations, and Trial Procedures for various scenarios and configurations which were developed to be conducted in conjunction with the work instructions. Rubicon Associates also provided a Safety Assessment Report which evaluated the hazards associated with the installation and testing of the motors to ensure the process will be conducted safely and efficiently.
Project Outcomes
Data from the trials will be used to support re-baselining of sea boat requirements and allow the suitability of the motors to be assessed.
